Asteros Group embarks on a new business development strategy

Asteros Group announced its new long-term business development strategy with the primary goal to focus on its strongest industry practices and unique competences. The new strategy will help Asteros to reach its full potential and establish a new strategic level of partnership with large enterprises and government authorities.

It took Asteros only several years to evolve from a small niche IT player into a large systems integrator. In 2011, Asteros reported $ 587 M of revenues, up 38% from the previous year. The fastest-growing IT company in 2009, Asteros was outgrowing the market year after year, and finally became a Top-7 Russian IT company in 2011. Today Asteros is the largest provider of infrastructure solutions for offices and facilities (CNews Analytics, 2012). Asteros is also a leading provider of information security solutions, and has been the second largest systems integrator in IDC rankings for three years in a row.

Rapid growth of business eventually brought Asteros projects to the federal level, creating the need for business reorganization involving multiple structural, operational and managerial changes. The new strategy is designed to enhance the leadership of Asteros in its key specialties, to reinforce its market position and to make Asteros and its individual business units more attractive for investment.

“We achieved significant results in Russia, and our goal now is to build upon this result and increase our competitive advantage in those market segments where we're already in the lead,” said Yury Byakov, the founder and major shareholder of Asteros Group. “The new strategy will help us make our business more efficient, while keeping our unique skills, competences and the synergy that is especially important in our Group's cross-functional projects.”

As a part of the new strategy, Asteros reinforced its top management team with internal promotions and new hires. Alexander Krasovsky was appointed a Managing Partner responsible for development of European business of Asteros Group. Mr. Krasovsky previously served as VP Sales with SITRONICS. Andrey Polonsky, previously Director of Strategic and Operational Sales with SITRONICS, joined Asteros Group as VP of Strategy and Corporate Development. Ilya Slutsky, previously President, Co-Owner and Board Member with Media Arts Group, was appointed Managing Partner and the Head of Asteros Consulting. Irina Smolyakova, previously VP HR and Corporate Development with Media Arts Group, joined Asteros as VP of Human Resources. Also among the newcomers is Ilya Kashaprov, who was appointed Head of Business Administration Division (previously Director of Business Administration with Eksmo, the largest Russian publisher). Valery Zaichenko, an executive with many years of experience in management positions with Deloitte & Touche, Cisco Systems, Gartner Consulting and FORBIS Consult, joined Asteros as Head of Business Applications Division.

Irina Smolyakova ran an active recruiting campaign from April to November. She helped Asteros to hire more than 300 engineers, systems architects, designers, consultants and information security professionals. In addition to that, Asteros launched the Project Department which is now responsible for design of engineering and IT infrastructures for various facilities.

Another important step for Asteros was the creation of four business units with full P&L responsibility and a managing company. One of these business units is Asteros Engineering and IT Infrastructures, headed by Andrey Cheremnykh who is combining jobs of Group President and the head of the key business unit. Other business units include Asteros Consulting headed by Ilya Slutsky, Asteros Services managed by Mikhail Erenburg (previously President of the Group) and Asteros Information Security under the management of Ivan Burdelo.

Asteros also bought out the outstanding 15% stake in KABEST, a company focused on security solutions, thus making KABEST a fully owned subsidiary of Asteros. At the same time, the Physical Site Security business will be merged with the Asteros Engineering and IT Infrastructures business unit. The Identity Management (IDM) practice will be transferred from Asteros Consulting to Asteros Information Security.

Currently Asteros has projects in pipeline worth $500 million. In the middle of this year Asteros started developing a principal design of engineering and IT systems for VTB Arena Sports Park, which will be built as a part of Dynamo Stadium renovation program. Asteros has also won the bid for deployment of low-current cabling infrastructure in the buildings of Sochi Olympic Village. Some of the largest Group's projects include nationwide outsourced support services for Sberbank, and implementation of IT and security systems for the offices of TNK-BP. Asteros has traditionally been focused on serving airports, and this year prepared the new terminal of Vladivostok International Airport for APEC 2012. Asteros Group has also recently announced the Asteros Contact Avia Unified Passenger Check-In Interface. Asteros is currently working on several strategic projects, such as a telecommunications project with MegaFon mobile phone operator and several projects, including projects of the new GIS practice, with government authorities. In 2012 Asteros has also completed several deployments for RusHydro Energy Holding.
